I am biking across America in order to raise money and awareness for the affordable housing issue. The Central US group and I plan to take off May 21st from Virgina Beach, VA and end up in Canon Beach, OR by July 31st. Along the way we will trade our bikes for hammers and build/repair homes for affordable housing organizations approximately once a week.

we traversed the highest paved road in the usa today! Trail Ridge Road through the Rockies. It was a continuous 20 mile climb to the top. I took tons of pictures while biking uphill ‘cause I didn’t want to miss out on anything. It felt good to take over the rockies and be at an elevation of over 12,000 feet. The picture of the sign is not the highest that we biked but it was the only sign i saw. Our lunch stop was near the top with a beautiful view. It was super windy/cold, which had us huddled inside our trailer and van trying to keep warm. dirt from our gravel lunch stop was also blowing everywhere when the wind picked up. We stopped at a visitors center about a mile down for hot chocolate where we could see elk out the window. The downhill from the top was a blast. we were the ones breaking for cars in this case, going well over speed limits at times. I love speed… and my goal was to go fifty something but a car stopped me just short of it… all good, still had fun.

We stayed in Granby, CO that night. Dave and I got an elk burger and a buffalo burger and watched the tour de france at a restaurant. That night, we also held prom with our ridiculous outfits that we had bought at thrift stores. luckily we had a gymnasium to ourself. The stage with no lights and only our bicycle blinky lights was the best dance room - if you weren’t epileptic. overall the day was jam packed with great memories.
